Members of the World Health Organization adopt first Pandemic Agreement

The agreement aims to strengthen global collaboration in preventing, preparing for and responding to future pandemics, promoting a more equitable distribution of vaccines, medicines and essential medical resources.

Innovative mechanisms include the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing System (PABS) and the Global Supply Chain and Logistics Network (GSCL), designed to improve distribution and access to key health resources.

For Portuguese-speaking countries such as Brazil and Angola, the agreement represents an opportunity to strengthen local capacities, including the transfer of technology and the strengthening of local production capacities. However, the absence of the United States in the vote raises doubts about the universal implementation and real impact of the agreement. In addition, financing the proposed measures remains a critical challenge, with experts warning that the success of the agreement will depend on the political will and financial commitment of the signatory countries.
